GRNET intends to contribute mainly to the eInfrastructure Work Package.
GRNET as the National Research and Education Network of Greece, and its
participation in the GEANT, SEEREN and Eumedconnect projects, has gained
the necessary experience and knowledge including the necessary contact
persons and conditions in the region, in order to conduct the related
work. GRNET will mainly focus on providing support in the deployment of
e-Infrastructure tools and services, such as video-conferencing and
AccessGrid virtual collaboration environment. In addition, through its
participation in European and regional related Grid projects such as
EGEE, SEEGRID, EUMEDGRID and EuChinaGrid, GRNET can also provide links
with the Grid ecosystem, with both peer European and regional entities,
as well as HPC communities and research groups. GRNET has well
qestablished teams and mechanisms for delivering Grid training,
supporting the application porting in the Grid, as well as installing
and operating Grid infrastructure. In the last year of the project,
GRNET will make an effort to transfer some of the above experience and
knowledge to the ITHANET communities, with the help of other ITHANET
partners, such as CESNET. In particular, training events will be
organised in Cyprus or other areas of interest, and an effort to
investigate the feasibility of porting ITHANET application into the Grid
will be made as follows:
With regards to collaboration with other projects, GRNET can link
Ithanet with European or regional projects doing similar work in both
the networking and grid area. On the networking environment GRNET can
link the Ithanet partners with the Eumedconnect and GEANT projects, that
have worked in the past or offering related video-conferencing services.
A cookbook on different video conferencing options would be proposed. In
addition, an effort to transfer the experience from the TERENA Task
Forces on real-time services will be made also.
On the grid environment GRNET can link with pan-European and regional
efforts such as EGEE, SEE-GRID, EUMEDGRID and EUCHINAGRID, that are
undertaking porting and adaptation of similar applications. Similarities
with the ITHANET environment and communities needs will be investigated,
so that economies of scales and reuse of existing software can be the
case. In addition, experienced teams will be consulted on the above
issues. Finally Grid induction and more advanced training such as
training on application porting will be investigating, after evaluating
the maturity of the related communities.
